Tough Love from Jillian - The Newsletter
Guilty 🙋♀️
Excuses are the easy way out. Over the years, I've made a lot of them (and so have you). Since opening fit-flavors, I've also heard EVERY excuse in the book from customers, friends, and family.
So I thought it would be fun to share them and to draw some important connections. Let's start with our excuses...
Top 10 Excuses for Not Working Out
I’m tired
I don’t know what to do
I have other priorities
I’m sore
I don’t want to get sweaty
I’m gonna go tomorrow
My friend cancelled on me
It’s not working
I’m not feeling it
I had a rough day
Top 10 Excuses for Not Eating Healthy
I deserve it
I don’t care
I’ll worry about it tomorrow
This isn’t that bad
There’s nothing else to eat
I’m starving
Eating this is easy
I just want it
I’ll work it off later
Someone gave this to me
Do you see some striking similarities? Let me just pull out a few...
Excuse for Not Working Out = Excuse for Not Eating Healthy
I have other priorities = Eating this is easy
My friend cancelled on me = Someone gave this to me
I'm not feeling it = I just want it
I had a rough day = I don't care
...you get the point.
Whichever one of these resonates with you, know that it's standing out because you’re comfortable using that excuse. Why? You've used it SO much that it validates you for whatever reason.
🚨You have to bust through that validation to grow🚨
The best way to do that is to take ownership of your excuses and create new habits. Executing on consistency and showing up for yourself matters because that's how you break through the excuses and write new narratives. My book, Owning the Wait has a whole section about this.
Some narratives you can work on building include:
This is going to make me feel good
I am going to get the results by doing the work
Doing something is better than not doing something
My endorphins are released when I work out
I feel better after making a healthy food decision
I'm proud of myself for overcoming my excuses
You start to SHIFT your mindset and habits by breaking through thanks to your consistency and small wins. Stop making commitments and not following though. It's not a good look and it's not serving you.
Here's a tough love reality: If you can look yourself in the mirror and recognize that your excuses are a load of bull💩 that just keep validating themselves over and over....and you're ready to stop doing that, then it's time to show up for yourself.
Start here ⤵️
Consistency over perfection.
Moderation over restriction.
When people ask me how I look the way I look or how I have the energy that I have, I tell them consistency and moderation.
What excuse do you let run your life? Message me and let me know.
Yours,
Jillian
